True North Construction is delivering the heritage-led restoration of 177 High Street West in Sunderland, transforming the former Tyre Shop into The Friends Meeting Place. As part of Sunderland’s Heritage Action Zone and funded by Historic England, the project involves the careful regeneration of this historically significant building, including the construction of a new ground‑floor retail unit and the refurbishment of the upper floors into modern Quaker meeting rooms and office spaces. Working in collaboration with DRC Consulting and Mosedale Gillatt Architects, we are combining specialist conservation techniques with contemporary construction standards to bring new commercial and community use to this important city‑centre landmark. Phase 1 is scheduled for completion at the end of March 2026, with Phase 2 due for completion in summer 2026.
